I don’t think I’ve ever had a real guest blogger on my McKinney Oates Blog. I’m not sure, but I’m probably weird enough to have let one of the cats blog a time or two, but never a real live person. And not just any real live person, but Sam Davidson, the original Cool Person who Cares.
He has a book coming out, 50 Things your Life Doesn’t Need, and I haven’t read it yet but you better believe I will. I’m all about throwing crap away. Especially when it’s Mark’s crap.
So not only did Sam write a book, but he is guest writing all around the blog world letting people know what they could probably get rid of in their life. It was kind of like free blog therapy and I was totally game. Hope you guys check out the book and enjoy the post (I sure did, as it seemed to answer my weekend long question about why there are no women with multiple husbands, ala the Sister Wives).
To be clear, Marie is only married to one guy: Mark. You can see a picture of him in a tiny tux here.
If you’ve been reading Marie’s blog for any length of time, you know that Mark is somewhat of a muse. He makes appearances in many posts, especially of late since he is 50% responsible for Marie’s child. He is also a cause of stress, happiness, conversation, and inspiration. I firmly believe that if Mark weren’t in the picture, Marie would only have need to post once a month.
Or – get this – were there two Marks, Marie would have so much content to post that she’d need to start two blogs. And, with a growing business, a baby on the way, and her recent Facebook sabbatical, she just might go insane. And that’s no way to raise a baby.
In short, Marie has found a perfectly happy medium: just the right amount of a great thing.
I believe the world needs more passionate people, but when we find our passion we need to be careful to indulge it just the right amount.Too much and we get sick of what we think we love. Too little and it’s probably not actually a passion.
My new book, 50 Things Your Life Doesn’t Need is designed to help you find your passion, whether it’s a new hobby, a love of a certain kind of art, or something you’d love to do for a career. Once you find your passion – if it’s really your passion – it’s something you’re willing to devote lots of time to. And maybe even blog posts. Everything else can fall to the wayside.
I’m glad Mark and Marie found each other (so are they). When you find your passion, you’ll be glad you did. Just don’t overdo it. As I say in the book, “Passions can be like pancakes – three or four sound great, but after a dozen, you’ll feel sick to your stomach.”
Other things (actually in the book) that Marie doesn’t need:
#6 – Five thousand Facebook friends
#25 – Anything belonging to an ex
#42 – Seven deadly sins

And a little more about 50 Things Your Life Doesn’t Need…
First, this book has a trailer! Yes, like the ones you watch before your movie starts and why I never leave for a movie on time (“We’re just missing the trailers…“). To watch the trailer (highly recommended) and more info about the book you can go here.
